Executive Director, David Andrew Snider has more than 20 years of experience as a director, educator, producer, administrator and actor. As Producing Artistic Director and CEO of Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT), he has received the Meyer Foundation’s $100,000 Exponent Award for visionary leadership of a nonprofit, the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities and the Hands On Greater DC Cares’ Essence of Leadership Award. He is a Directing Fellow of the Drama League of New York, a past President of the League of Washington Theatres, a member of Leadership Greater Washington and a National Arts Strategies Chief Executive Fellow.
David served as the Director of Artistic Programming at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater in Washington, DC from 2012-2014, planning and producing some of the most ambitious and daring work seen there in over 15 years, according to The Washington Post (“Arena Stage plans ambitious season full of big names,” Peter Marks, January 2013). To date, these seasons have broken all box office records for Arena Stage, including hit productions with Kathleen Turner, Bill Pullman, Maurice Hines and Malcolm Jamal-Warner. Prior to Arena Stage, David was the Producing Artistic Director and CEO of Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT) from 2005-2012. While at YPT, David reinvigorated the company’s vision and mission, raising the organization’s local and national profile while improving the company’s fiscal health and expanding YPT’s infrastructure through several capacity-building projects. Under his leadership, YPT was awarded commissions from the White House, the Kennedy Center and the Smithsonian Institution while establishing a resident company and an advisory panel of nationally recognized playwrights.
David received his MFA from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts and his BA in English Literature/Russian language from Dickinson College, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. He is an Adjunct Professor in Arts Management at American University in Washington, DC, teaching coursework at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in the art of producing, financial management and the fundamentals of arts management. David resides in the village of Cambridge, NY, with his wife and children.
