Welcome to the New Year

By January 30, 2014News

Best wishes for the New Year. I want to share exciting news with you and extend my sincere thanks to everyone who responded to our annual appeal. Everything we are able to do for the community and our students and audiences is in large part thanks to the generosity of our members and supporters. Donations from area businesses, members, donors and patrons is the life blood of the organization. I hope you will join me in supporting Hubbard Hall when ever possible. You can now become a sustaining member by making an automatic monthly contribution from your bank account. $40 per month from 100 sustaining members would have a huge impact on our finances. Also remember to visit our new website, where news and events, registration, ticketing and donations are all at you fingertips.

In terms of our beloved art center 2014 promises to be exciting and momentous. Many of you have heard by now we will have a new Executive Director this year; only the second in the 35 years since Hubbard Hall Projects was formed in 1978. David Snider from Washington DC has signed a 3 year contract with Hubbard Hall starting May 19 and will be taking over the reins from Benjie officially July 1, 2014. After a year long search process we feel very fortunate to have found someone with such excellent qualifications, with significant professional experience in theater and arts administration, glowing references and who is wonderfully personable. I think the board members  agree that we already feel very comfortable with David and trust our organization will be in good hands.

David Snider David and his wife Alex (who has just started working at Bennington College) and children Henry and Della are very excited to be moving to the area. It has been a dream of theirs to find a rural community where they could raise their family and take up organic gardening. They feel very lucky to have found such a welcoming community and an organization where David can put into practice his philosophy of community service and his ideas for using the arts to enrich peoples lives. They have already found a house and Henry and Della are making lots of new friends. David will continue to work in D.C.  through early April. He will be coming to Cambridge on weekends and meeting with the board, staff and stakeholders and learning more about how the organization operates and meeting members of the community. Please join me in welcoming David and his family to Cambridge.

Meanwhile the board is busy planning and organizing the Reunion for the July 4th weekend this summer. The Hubbard Hall Reunion will be an opportunity to recognize and celebrate what a remarkable 36 years we have enjoyed with Hubbard Hall at the center of our artistic community. It will also be a chance to welcome the David and for all of us to embrace the future of our art center with new energy. Look for fun ways you can contribute to the Reunion; stories, memories and photographs can be added to the Facebook page and the Hubbard Hall website. The weekend will celebrate the bounty of music, art, dance and theater, food and friendship we all share and will include a special keepsake commemorative program.

Thank you, fellow board members for your commitment of time and energy towards sustaining our mission of “making art and community happen” and continuing to strengthen Hubbard Hall for the future.

I also want to express my sincere thanks to every one of our staff and volunteers for regularly stepping up when it is needed to keep the Hall humming. I estimate that we receive in-kind donations of volunteered time, materials and supplies, guest rooms and food and professional services at least equal to our annual budget. This is truly a measure of how much we all care about Hubbard Hall. The extraordinary level of volunteerism and unconditional support is one of the reasons I remain committed to Hubbard Hall and am inspired to work hard to insure everyone enjoys their Hubbard Hall experience.

Finally, I want to thank everyone who has given me words of encouragement, advice and shared their ideas and wisdom and spurred me on over this past year. Thank you for everything you do to keep the magic happening.

Sincerely,

Andrew Pate
Chairperson, Hubbard Hall Board of Directors
